Tragedy

This weekend the whole neighborhood is in a state of grief. A man was hit and killed down the road from where I was staying.

Ta bron orm

I apologize for not updating the blog. I just got the internet set up here yesterday. The program is going well. When I got here I received some bad news. One of the students, Nancy, from last year who had been in the program for 6 years was killed by a drunk driver a couple of months ago. We had a minute of silence for her the first day of classes. The classes are tough but I am learning a lot. The house I am staying at is very nice. Today I went to the Inis Oirr. It was nice but too much horse shit and not enough to do. I will try to post more often now that the internet is set up.

Departure

I am just about ready to leave. I am going to get some lunch and visit my grandmother before heading off to the Airport. My next post will be when I arrive in Ireland. Slán a fhágáil ag duine

Tús

Tús is the gaeilge word for beginning. I am set to leave tomorrow for An Cheathru Rua. I got my accommodations figured out. I am staying not too far from where i was last year. I know the kids who i am staying with this year from the pub last year. There are 4 kids in the family. Cillin, Dara, Donhnal, and Colm. From the people I spoke to who stayed with the family last year I learned that the family does not allow english to be spoken in the house. I think this will be good because it forces me to speak the language. Once I get things settled I will post more.
I am also planning on growing out my beard while I am there.
